The route covered by this book is mainly off-road,using dedicated cycle tracks, but there are also a number of on-road sections, especially between Portland Bill and Fortuneswell, Weymouth and Poole, Southbourne (east of Bournemouth) to Lymington, greater Southampton and Lee on Solent to Hayling Island. There are also a number of on-road sections on the Isle of Wight.
Most of these on-road sections however, by way of compensation, offer some excellent coastal views in the areas through which they pass.
If you take the coastal route between Poole and Lymington you see some impressive views over the Solent towards the Isle of Wight.
There are also coastal sections between Fortuneswell and Weymouth, Southampton and Hayling Island, and also along some of the north and east coastlines of the Isle of Wight.
The photograph on the rear cover (opposite) shows the view of Chesil Beach from the Isle of Portland, just before the road descends into Fortuneswell.
